Turner Field Site Visit

Reinhardt University
Sport Studies Program
Site Visit Summary

Sport Site:Turner Field
Date: Nov.3rd
Location:Atlanta, Georgia
Site Contact:Tour Guide Dave

Instructions: Submit (as an email attachment) a summary addressing information below and any other topics associated with the visit within before the next class meeting.

Site Facilities:  Separately, list and briefly summarize all areas/aspects of the sports site you toured.

  • Upper coca-cola deck- allowed you to run the base and sit in the biggest chairs in Atlanta. Also this is where the fireworks shot out of the coca-cola bottle.
  • Sport broadcasting room- where all the TV crews and commentators go to broadcast the game
  • Writers room- where all the writers for news papers, the MLB, and other forums come to write about the game
  • 500 club- an elite club for members only
  • Braves locker room- where the players prepare for a game as well as shower, the training room was off of this as well.
  • The suntrust lounge- another club for elite members only who get to sit right behind home plate, these seats are closer to home plate than the pitcher
  • On the field (braves dugout)- we went out on the field and saw where all the players sit during a game
  • Suits- where many companies and members can buy out a suite for the game, they are all covered and have 3 TV’s in them

  • Career Possibilities:  What are potential career paths associated with this sports site?  Please list and briefly explain as many as you can identify.
  • Marketing- marketing would be a career opportunity because this department is responsible for getting the public out to the game
  • Public Relations- this branch is important because the guide told us that many different businesses rent out some parts of the park for their organizational functions as well as some rehearsal dinners, this department would deal with all of these different aspects
  • Broadcasting- broadcasters are needed to give a play by play of the game to people who are not able to make it out to the game
  • Administrative work- this would deal with all the paperwork and behind the scenes work
  • Ticketing- dealing with selling of tickets to the game
  • Recruiting- must recruit people to the team to play and be successful

What are the most significant things you learned from this site visit?  What questions arose from this visit?

  • I learned how many people the stadium can hold and where it came from- the Olympic stadium
  • I learned that the braves is the longest standing franchise in the MLB
  • I learned that they keep the grass cut twice a day and that they have their own grass farm
